Man charged after fatal car crash west of Cobar

Police charged the 43-year-old man, the driver of the vehicle, with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was refused bail and remains under local police guard in hospital to appear before a Dubbo Local Court registrar today.

A man has died and another man was injured after a single-vehicle crash west of Cobar on Friday.

Just before 11am on Friday emergency services attended the scene of the fatal single-vehcile crash on the Barrier Highway about 125 kilometres west of Cobar after reports a heavy rigid vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

A 49-year-old male passenger died at the scene and the 43-year-old male driver was trapped for a short time before being freed by witnesses.

The driver was treated at the scene and taken to Cobar Hospital before being transported to Dubbo Base Hospital.

Officers from Central North Police District established a crime scene.

Police attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police said they would prepare a report for the Coroner.

Police have reminded the public any information provided would be treated in strict confidence and not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
