Liam Payne appears to have given a little look into how his relationship with Cheryl came to a sudden end back in July.
The singer has dropped his new four track EP and theres a lot to take in in a short space of time.
The One Direction has made a savvy move in the wake of his breakup, deciding to go back to work on his album after deciding some of the tracks dont work anymore. Reading between the lines, he may have had a few songs about his ex that he now no longer feels like singing all the way through a tour.
He confessed hes gone back to the studio to rewrite the songs that felt from another age, and in the meantime has given us this little record to tide us over. And its given us a little juicy insight into what goes on behind Liams closed doors.

The EP isnt actually half bad. Its split in two, with two songs about his single life, and two about his split from Cheryl. And they are the ones that give a good look at the real Liam – and what really happened when they split back in July.
Depend On It is nothing like anything Liam has done before, its an almost mournful piano-led piece that hears him seemingly singing about the end of his relationship and how he wasnt ready to let go.
Its stripped back, leaving his vocals and lyrics on show, as he appears to tells listeners that Cheryl was the one to call time on their romance.
Howd we get to lying, crying, always fighting like our lives depend on it? he sings in the opening few bars.
As the song progresses, he sings about having hope they can fix their relationship: Im not ready yet, theres still a thread left.
Its all a little bit heartbreaking as he hints at rows, and touches on residual anger between them.
Oh there you go putting words in my mouth. Its about to go down, he sings.
But Liam reveals he wasnt ready to let things end, as he pleads: Give it one last go. I need us to try and asks why shes looking at him with angry eyes.

Overall its a beautiful track, and a bit of a surprise from the pop pro who took a step into a bit of hip hop with previous releases. Its also a surprise to see Liam show his vulnerable side.
The final track on the EP, called Slow, is chilled, a break from his usual sexy vibe, and continues with the rawness, something hes been masking with dance and pop of previous tracks.
Its a bit more upbeat than Depend On It, but he still gives a further glimpse into his split, saying he knew things were over months ago, and hinting that Cheryl had been the one to decide despite him trying to change her mind.

Your minds already made up, he sings, and asks for one more night before saying goodbye, despite saying they are broken. The main refrain of the track hears him asking to be let down slow.
Though this is done, Ill turn a blind eye, dont tell me good night, because that means good bye, he sings.
Hold me like you dont already know that youre going to let me down slow.
Sounds like things are still quite painful for the lad.
Well, that is until you listen to the first two tracks and hear single Liam shining thorugh.

While those two tracks are a step away from what weve heard from Liam before, hes made sure weve got a nice dose of hip hop from the other two songs.
French Montana features on the title track First Time, where Liam brings back the more vibey, sexy music were used to, with a Latino twist.
Girl you a savage, you aint a lady, he sings. I cant stop thinking about the first time, its like you put a spell on me.
He and French Montana gel well and the track is a more grown up sound for the 1D lad, a definite progression from his Strip That Down days (although that was a banger) with more thoughtful lyrics than I used to be in 1D but now Im out free.
Home With You has a Justin Timberlake vibe, although lyrically is the weakest as he sings about trying to get a girl to take him home despite her friends clearly not liking him.
Why dont we find somewhere quiet? as he complains that the girls friends are getting in the way of their alone time. Theres too many cooks in the kitchen.
Still, it might not show him off as a wordsmith but its catchy as hell.
Looks like the album could be worth the wait.
