UAE community takes up Kerala relief as its own cause

Emiratis and other foreigners wanting to help frequently visit Kerala Social Centre in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: Many Emiratis and other non-Indian residents, including Pakistanis, in Abu Dhabi are frequently visiting the Kerala Social Centre (KSC) in the capital, asking what they can do for the flood victims, a community leader said. “This proves that the UAE community has taken up the Kerala flood relief as its own cause, following the initiatives taken by the UAE rulers for Kerala,” Saleem Cholamukath, auditor and media coordinator at the KSC.

He said when residents see the board of the KSC, they feel that it is the place they can express their solidarity and donate something. “Since we stopped collecting goods and we are not authorised to collect cash, we give them the details of the Kerala chief ministers relief fund,” Cholamukath said.

Most of the visitors are Emiratis, followed by Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, other Arabs and then people of other nationalities, he said.
