Its a new era for Spandau Ballet.

The Gold and True hitmakers are bravely entering a new chapter this year following the departure of founding member and frontman Tony Hadley in July 2017.

The band have since recruited Hadleys replacement in the form of Ross William Wild, who is best known for his roles in musical theatre – such as the production The Million Dollar Quartet, which first got him noticed by the group.

Spandau Ballet 2.0 appeared as a five-piece on todays edition of This Morning (22 August) for their first interview together, with the band keen to praise the impact Wild has had on their set-up since he joined the fold back in June.

Weve done a show live together, and that was sort of the proof in the pudding, Steve Norman said of Wilds introduction. And that energy on stage was awesome, it was electric. And it made us up our game a little bit.

Gary Kemp added that there were no problems with the age gap between the majority of the band and Wild: Ross brings in a lot of energy… I think he makes us feel younger.

Asked by Eamonn Holmes about how they left it with Hadley following his departure, Martin Kemp was quick to stress that there werent any lingering sentiments of ill-feeling between the two parties.

I wish him well, Kemp said. Im always going to love Tony, we grew up together. I wish him well in whatever he does.

He wanted to stop, but we wanted to carry on – so what do you do? I love being in this band, I love spending time with these guys and doing this is the only opportunity I get to do it.

For me, carrying on with Spandau was a no-brainer.

Spandau Ballet will play in the UK later this year when they return to the capital for a one-off show at the Hammersmith Apollo on 29 October.
