Orana firefighter called to large bushfire in northern NSW

ORANA region firefighter Peter Fothergil has joined the battle against a large bushfire burning in the north of the state.

The 1625 hectare blaze is burning in the Washpool National Park which is located in the Glen Innes local government area.

On the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) website the fire is called the Upper Rocky River Road at Moogem.

RFS Orana district officer David Nicholson said when large blazes occur across the state or country, firefighters can volunteer to go and lend a hand.

“Hes [Peter Fothergill] working as the deputy incident controller,” he said.

“Its cold, but still windy,” Mr Nicholson said of the conditions at the fire.

“The wind is the biggest problem, as well as the dryness of the fuel.

“Unfortunately drought effects us everywhere.”

The fire is currently listed as being controlled and a watch and act alert remains in place for people who live in the region.
