Mosimane: Key mistakes have cost us in Champions League

Cape Town – Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has defended his charges in their 1-0 defeat against Wydad Casablanca but lamented key mistakes in this year's CAF Champions League.

Masandawana were left on the verge of elimination by an Anas El Asbahi strike, but Mosimane admitted that a missed chance from Jose Ali Meza was the difference between them and the defending champions.

"It's just that – you know football; the guy takes one chance and he scores," Mosimane said, according to TimesLIVE website.

"My No.10, Jose Ali Meza, got a chance in front of the goalkeeper — he didn't take it. When you play a game of two teams of high quality, it will always be like this."

Mosimane admitted that this was not the first time a crucial error had let them down in this year's Champions League.

"We know why we are where we are now. Because we made two big mistakes," he said.

"One, the game at Horoya in Guinea (a 2-2 draw), we conceded in the last four minutes. We were 2-1 up.

"The game in Togo (a 1-0 defeat against AS) was sickening. We should have scored five goals.

"Against WAC (the first game against Wydad, a 1-1 draw) we made one mistake.

"My player thought the ball was out and everybody was standing, and they crossed the ball and scored with a header.

"But we scored in three minutes and we put WAC under pressure."

Sundowns sit third in Group C with five points from five games, three less than second-placed Horoya.

Anything less than a win against the Guinean club on 28 August will see the 2016 champions drop out of contention for this year's prize.
