Dubai: A Dubai and Abu Dhabi-based electromechanical and interior fit out group has opened up 120 vacancies for amnesty seekers looking to regularise their residency status and find mainstream jobs.
Electrofos, who are offering mechanical, electrical and plumbing jobs as well as interior fit outs positions, is inviting workers of all nationalities to apply to their organisation. The group needs a host of skilled and semi-skilled workers such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters among others, and is ready to exclusively hire amnesty seekers.
Suresh Kumar Manian, operations head for Electrofos, told Gulf News: “Currently, our organisation needs manpower in both the interior outfit and the electromechanical sections. One of our friends at the Amer Centre told us how such skilled workers were compelled to return home during amnesty, because of a lack of jobs. We thought, why not employ them?”
Manian feels these people will benefit the company as they have considerable work experience in the UAE and proven talent. “Most of these workers seeking amnesty have worked in the industry and have the skill sets. What we will do is hire them, understand if they have the basic wherewithal to fit into our organisation. We will give them a month or two during which we will provide them training. If they prove themselves, we will move towards providing them regular employment visas.”
Salaries paid to workers will be commensurate with the ongoing expectations in the market, the spokesperson assured. There are 15 openings for electricians, 10 for plumbers, 10 for A/C duct workers, five for pipe fitters, 15 for gypsum workers, 10 for gypsum painters, 45 helpers and 15 tile masons.
Under the ongoing amnesty, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) has given the option to expatriates who entered the country through legal means (either employment or visit visas) and overstayed, to be able to regularise their status and find new employment. GDRFA run 43 Amer centres are providing a bouquet of services, including cancellation of fines for violations related to residency, Emirates ID and labour permits. Applicants can also clear absconding cases and renew expired visas or stamp new visas.
