Woman critically injured, man charged with attempted murder

A MAN is due to face court charged with attempted murder after a woman was found critically injured in the states Central West.

About 2am on Thursday, August 16, emergency services were called to a unit on Horsley Drive at Coonabarabran, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District found a 46-year-old woman with a serious head injury.

She was treated by paramedics and taken to Coonabarabran Hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives initiated an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 48-year-old man was arrested at Coonabarabran Police Station about 10.30am.

He has now been charged with attempted murder (Domestic Violence), break and enter dwelling and inflict grievous bodily harm, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic Violence), and two counts of common assault.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court on Friday, August 17.
