Tired of how Asians are being portrayed in the media, K-pop star Eric Nam decided to buy a screening in Atlanta, Georgia of the breakthrough film Crazy Rich Asians.
To all my fans, friends and family in ATLANTA. My brothers and I have decided to buy out a showing of the new movie CRAZY RICH ASIANS, he posted on Instagram.
Eric and his brothers Eddie and Brian bought the 16 August, 6pm showing of the movie at AMC Parkway Pointe 15 theater where we used to watch movies on the weekends.
Crazy Rich Asians, which premiered in the US on 15 August, is being praised for being the first global release to have an all-Asian cast since the 1993 film The Joy Luck Club. It stars Constance Wu and Henry Golding.
Eric said they decided to buy a screening of the film because were tired of being under and misrepresented in mainstream media and we want decision makers to understand that WE ARE HERE, WE ARE ABLE, WE ARE INFLUENTIAL AND WE ARE IMPORTANT.

Were not just tech geeks, math nerds, and ninja assassins. We are brilliant, beautiful, sexy, hot, and much more, he added.
He explained that the success of Crazy Rich Asians is about US. OUR community. This is about directly impacting our future and futures of generations to come. To be the first full Asian cast movie in 25 years is absolutely INSANE.
SO! Lets pull together as a community and SHOW UP. The Nam brothers hope that weve made it just a little bit easier for you all to do so and to join in. And no, you dont need to be Asian to watch this movie, enjoy the showing, or be a part of this movement. The more diverse the merrier, he said.
Eric was born and raised in Atlanta and became a contestant in Birth of a Great Star 2 in 2012, which started his career in South Korea.

He also recorded the song Float for the animated movie Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.
Eric is also known for interviewing Hollywood celebrities including Ryan Reynolds and Jamie Foxx

But to sell Crazy Rich Asians solely as a breakthrough in representation—as important as that is—would do the picture a disservice: Its simply great fun, a winsome romantic comedy and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags, according to its review.
It added that within that context, it manages to fold in a few serious elements that hit close to home, in Americas new era of hostility toward immigrants. It also features a uniformly appealing cast of actors, quite a few of whom have the faces of true, old-school movie stars—faces that the camera just adores. How often do you get all that in a movie featuring mostly white people?
