The Northern Line delays come as Piccadilly Line passengers continue to face serious delays on the line. Around half the Piccadilly Line fleet was taken out of service for repairs last week, and until all the trains are restored to proper working order, a reduced timetable is running.

Meanwhile, this could be a mere test run for the transport chaos that could beset the capital over the Christmas period – Southern rail workers are set to strike on three separate occasions between 6 December and 2 January, with more dates to be announced, and thousands of Tube workers have also voted in favour of industrial action.
