New store gives Margaret River family reason to party
Long time Margaret River locals Derren and Dearne Parsons have opened the doors on the regions newest retail business venture with the hopes of providing quality goods and locally-minded service.
After many years working in retail and service positions in the region and raising their family, the duo have unveiled Beloons – The Ultimate Party Store.
Tackling the mammoth task of fitting out the space on Station Road was just part of the journey for the couple.
“There was a lot of work involved, it was really daunting to start out but we got there thanks to many, many hours spent here and at home getting things organised,” explained Derren.
“Our house turned into a storage warehouse for quite some time… there were boxes everywhere,” added Dearne.
It was all worth it in the end according to the pair, who identified a need for such an outlet in the growing South West community.
“We have four kids of our own, and while two have now left the nest and the others are a bit older now, something we realised during all the years of party planning and celebrations is there isnt really anywhere in the area where you can get high quality, reliable supplies.
“There are small selections at some of the major supermarkets but they tend to all be the same and the variety isnt there.”
Lining the walls of the store are thousands of balloons in a kaleidoscope of colour and designs and characters for almost every childhood (or adult) obsession.
“Were constantly getting in new stock, and we can also order items that arent on the shop floor,” said Derren.
“Every week there is more and more coming in, and we range from the popular TV, cartoon and movies to party themes, Halloween, milestone birthday celebrations and anniversaries.”
As well as the walls and walls of balloons – including an online ordering and in-store click and collect service – the store stocks event items like tableware, table covers, bomboniere bags and bunting.
“Our balloons are filled onsite, and we are focused on supplying very high quality balloons – so often people will buy the cheaper stuff available at department stores and find theyve deflated in hours, or they bring them down here to us to fill and they just pop instantly.
“Were really proud of our products, they are very high quality and much stronger material so they will actually last.”
Balloon bouquets, stuffed gift balloon arrangements and even larger balloon designs for weddings and special events can be created.
“We are always learning new techniques and new ideas for beautiful arrangements which you can either come into the shop and chat about, or order online and pick up or have your balloons delivered,” said Dearne.
