Margaret River Farmers Market named countrys best

The Margaret River Farmers Market was named the best in the country at the delicious. Produce awards on Monday night.

Speaking from the event, coordinator Katrina Lombardo said the success of the market was down to producers, and the produce, of the region.

“It is wonderful that our community can know their farmers and their producers,” she told the Mail. “That is what shines through every Saturday – the community connectedness.”

Ms Lombardo said the market provided a level of communication between consumer and supplier that grew an understanding of seasonality.

“Being able to provide affordable quality fresh food as well as being a part of the education for change is such an honour,” she said.

"Seeing customers begin to understand that not everything will be available all year, but really embracing produce in season, adapting recipes and so on.”

Local business and market stallholder The Farm House was also recognised with a gold medal for their Arkady Lamb.

“It is always a privilege and honour to be a part of the delicious. Produce Awards National Judging Panel,” he said.

“Every year we are blown away by the standard of produce being grown and raised around this bountiful country that really lays the foundation for our world-class food industry.

“This year, it was wonderful to see some innovative new winners together with some of the most consistently year-on-year extraordinary produce.”
