Theres a whole lot of Tom Hardy in the new trailer for Marvels Spider-Man spin-off Venom, and its his darker side coming to the fore.

There is a brutal side to the Marvel franchise, and Venom is it.

The new trailer sees Tom Hardys character Eddie Brock discovering that he has been taken over by some weird alien, parasitic symbiote hell-bent on using him to find his next human meal. Good guy Eddie is seen struggling against this new power as the parasite, while giving him superhuman strength, tries to get him to kill innocents.

Eddie, cooperate and you might just survive, the creatures grim voice is heard telling his host.

Eyes, knees, pancreas. So many snacks, so little time, the evil alien tells a victim at one point in the clip.

The pair then find a compromise; Eddie, who rapidly realises he cant fight this thing, will let it kill, as long as it goes after the guilty instead – and after making the deal the duo kill and eat a man attempting to rob Eddies local shop, who they eloquently brand an armless, legless, faceless thing rolling down the street, like a turd in the wind, before Eddie reveals his face to prove he has accepted this new side to himself.

The movie also stars Riz Ahmed as Dr Carlton Drake, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson.

Speaking at Comic Con, Tom Hardy recently revealed his decision to play the character.

My son came to me with a specific character that he absolutely fell in love with, and I started to take a look at it myself, he said. And then, as if by magic, a script appeared on the horizon, which was awesome.

Because having had done Dark Knight [Rises] with Chris[topher Nolan], Id kind of done my superhero bit in some aspects. But when I was presented with the opportunity to play Venom, and that correlated with my sons love for Venom and how cool he was, I got really really excited and decided I really wanted to do it.

Venom is slated for a 5 October release.
