Meryl Streep almost played Sylvester Stallone's daughter in Demolition Man 2

Sly Stallone nearly had Meryl for a daughter

Sylvester Stallone nearly had Meryl Streep for a daughter in the world of John Spartan.

Fans of 1993s Demolition Man were probably pretty devastated that the sequel never materialised. Well to add insult to the wounds it has come to light that the sequel would have had an interesting addition – Meryl Streep was nearly a co-star.

The original was set in the futuristic world of 1996, with John Spartan being framed for mass murder by his enemy Simon Phoenix, played by Wesley Snipes, and the two being cryogenically frozen for the crime. They were then awoken in the year 2032 for a parole hearing.

A subplot, which was axed from the original movie, saw Spartan track down his daughter, conceived in the year 1996 and now older than him after hed been frozen for so long. The idea was the plot would lead nicely into a sequel – which never happened.

But a name had been lined up for that role – Meryl Streep.

According to the Projection Booth, co-writer Daniel Waters said producer Joel Silver had suggested the Mamma Mia star for the role.

I get a call from Joel – “What do you think of this? Meryl Streep is Stallones daughter for the sequel. What do you think?” Waters revealed. Im like “Okay, you get Meryl on the set and Ill come out.'”

Sadly we all know the outcome of that one, the sequel never happened and we never got to see Meryl in that action role. But what a movie that would have been.
