If your dad wore skyscraper heels, they might look like these.

This summer, sandals are not about elegance or subtly. From solid sliders to the resurgence in popularity of Birkenstocks, the hottest sandals are seriously chunky.

Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Rick Owens have sent variations on the ugly sandal down the catwalk, but brothers Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2 have surpassed them all.

Riffing on the colours and style of Balenciagas sell-out Triple S Trainers, plasticky monstrosities reminiscent of something your dad definitely wears with his polo shirt tucked into chinos, Dsquared2 have showcased an ugly sandal trainer heel hybrid on the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

The trainer/heel/sandals appear to be a loving homage to the Balenciaga Triple S Trainers, matching the red, yellow and blue colour palate and the grotesque dad trainer appearance.

They feature a platform and a seriously high heel in moulded white plastic, plus buckle straps just like on the ancient rucksack your dad brings out on holiday.

The Italian brand has now announced on Instagram that the hybrid shoes will be available in several colour schemes and styles, including the sky-high block heels and platform trainers. The model seen on the Paris runway are called The Giant Heels.

And they are giant.

The best thing about the ugly sandal trend is that whether its Teva or Dr Martens youre wearing, your sandals are going to be comfortable and sturdy.

The Dsquared2 heeled trainer/sandal monsters look anything but comfy, but theyre sure to turn heads (even if its just your dads head because he really, really wants to wear them).

With Kayne West tweeting a picture of new blue plastic, Croc-reminiscent Yeezy slides, its unlikely that the ugly sandal trend is going away any time soon.
