RSPCA launches new animal welfare awards program

RSPCA WA has launched a new awards program to recognise commitment, courage and bravery by those who help animals in need and work towards better animal welfare outcomes.

There are five award categories available for public nominations, including an award for an animal who has shown bravery in protecting people.

Other categories are the Humane Award, Youth Award, Community Action Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.

RSPCA WA chief executive officer David van Ooran said the awards are a way to focus on the positives happening within the community.

“As a society, we tend to see, hear and focus more on the negative side of animal welfare and protection and we dont really focus on all the good things that are happening in our community involving peoples attitudes and actions towards all creatures great and small,” he said.

“By inviting people to share stories of others bravery and determination to help animals, we hope a ripple effect will be created to inspire others to treat animals with kindness and compassion, and contribute to raising animal welfare standards in WA.

“We know there are people in our community who are doing wonderful things to protect animals and improve animal welfare standards and we want to hear about them. This really is an opportunity for those people to be recognised for their efforts and compassion, and hailed as the heroes that they are.”

Completed forms must be send and emailed to [email protected] by 5pm August 29.
