Australian Invictus warriors to be named

Australia's team of soldiers-turned-athletes competing in the upcoming Invictus Games in Sydney will be unveiled ahead of the October Paralympics-style event.

The chosen sportsmen and women will be announced on the steps of the Opera House on Friday by Defence Minister Marise Payne.

Prince Harry, the driving force behind the games, will be accompanied by his new bride Meghan when they travel to Sydney.

The event gives wounded current or former military personnel the chance to compete against one another on the sporting field.

A chance to catch a glimpse of the popular royal couple has already proven a huge drawcard for spectators, with tickets to some events already sold out.

A former soldier, Prince Harry was inspired to found the Invictus Games in 2014 after serving two tours in Afghanistan.

The 72-strong Australian team announced on Friday will join 500 competitors from 18 nations at the Sydney Games.

Competitors will battle it out in 11 different sports, with sailing featuring for the first time at the games, with races held on Sydney Harbour.

The Sydney Invictus Games will begin on October 20 and will run for one week.
