Danny Kirwan, former guitarist for Fleetwood Mac, has died at the age of 68.

The musician passed away in London, England on Friday, though no cause of death has been given.

Mick Fleetwood announced the passing of his bandmate, calling him a huge force for the iconic bands early years.

On his personal Facebook page, Mick wrote: Today was greeted by the sad news of the passing of Danny Kirwan in London, England. Danny was a huge force in our early years.

His love for the Blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years.

Dannys true legacy, in my mind, will forever live on in the music he wrote and played so beautifully as a part of the foundation of Fleetwood Mac, that has now endured for over fifty years.

Thank you, Danny Kirwan. You will forever be missed!, he added.

The musician appeared on five of the bands early albums, touring with the ever-changing group from 1968 to 1972.

Danny was just 18 when he was asked to join the band, with his first single with them, Albatross, making it to number one in the US.

When the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he was one of the eight members of the group to be cited in the ceremony, however he did not attend the event.

He was eventually fired from the band due to his alcoholism, and released four albums of his own.

More: Death

In 1993, it was revealed that Danny was living in a hostel in London, after his former bandmates asked the Missing Persons Bureau to track him down.

He told the Independent at the time: I get by and I suppose I am homeless, but then Ive never really had a home since our early days on tour. I couldnt handle it all mentally and I had to get out.

I cant settle.
