Cape Town – Former Bafana Bafana striker and current Cape Town City FC head coach Benni McCarthy has been reportedly linked with the managerial vacancy at Scottish Premier League club, St Mirren.
The 40-year-old recently completed his first professional season as a head coach in the Absa Premiership, where he guided the Citizens to a fifth-place finish.
According to widespread reports, McCarthy, along with Netherlands legend Patrick Kluivert, are among the names vying to succeed Jack Ross.
St Mirren secured top flight status after winning the Scottish Championship and are in search for new mentor to lead the club to greater heights.
Former Real Madrid attacking midfielder and current youth coach, Jose Guitierrez Hernandez, fondly known as Guti, is also in the mix to be hired.
However, with Zinedine Zidane announcing his departure from Los Blancos, Guti has been touted with filling the void left by the Frenchman.
McCarthy is currently in the process of completing his UEFA Pro Licence, but is reportedly keen to meet with St Mirren's representatives.
The Daily Mail claims that The Buddies are set to make an official announcement next week after completing the interviewing process with the candidates in the next few days.
McCarthy is scheduled to return to South Africa later this month, as he is set to be a football analyst on broadcasting channel, SuperSport, during the 2018 Soccer World Cup.
