Brazilian ace Bobo re-signs with Sydney FC

Bobo will be back to challenge his own A-League golden boot record after committing to Sydney FC for another campaign.

Season to remember: Bobo was Sydney FC's player of the year for 2017-18.

The Brazilian striker's retention has been largely a formality since he surpassed the 18-goal mark on his way to an all-time high season tally of 27 over 27 games, triggering a clause in his contract that guaranteed the same terms.

But it's understood the club slightly sweetened the deal to ensure the 33-year- old stuck around for a third season to help the all-conquering Sky Blues through the early stages of the post-Graham Arnold era.

Bobo has been close to making it official for some time and was looking forward to working under Steve Corica in 2018-19.

"Sydney FC is a great club and we have had two fantastic seasons, so to have earned another contract is an excellent outcome for me and my family," Bobo said. "Next season will be another huge challenge and I believe an exciting journey for the club."

Bobo's re-signing, while expected, is a coup for a Sydney side who've also managed to keep another valuable asset in Serbian playmaker Milos Ninkovic, while reigning Johnny Warren Medallist Adrian Mierzejewski remains on contract.

Corica said it boded well for the club's attempt to win a third consecutive Premiers' Plate on the way to regaining the championship trophy lost last season.

"There is no doubt Bobo is among the greatest strikers to have appeared in the A-League and sits only behind Alex Brosque as Sydney FC's all-time leading scorer," Corica said.

"His character off the pitch is a great positive and he's also a great man to have around the club.

"I'm looking forward to working with him again."

Sydney expect to make further player announcements in the coming days before the squad returns for pre-season training on July 2.
