Winter started two days early for many across the region, with many towns waking up to cold and overcast conditions on Wednesday.
However there was also some good news with small but widespread falls of rain happening right across NSW, and almost all towns recording at least a few millimetres.
In Nyngan just three millimetres was recorded by the bureau of meteorology at the airport.
While it will barely scratch the surface of the drought affecting the region, it may give a small boost to farmers with crops in the ground.
The biggest fall of 19mm was recorded at Nullo Mountain, just outside Mudgee, while 13mm was recorded at Grenfell, according to Weatherzone.
Other noteable falls included 11mm at Lithgow, Mudgee, Cowra, Wellington and Bathurst with Dubbo getting 10mm.
Oberon, Dunedoo and Forbes got 9mm while 8mm fell at Orange and 7mm at Parkes.
Unfortunately, further west the recorded rain was smaller, with Nyngan recording 4mm, Cobar 1mm and Bourke just 0.2mm.
According to Weatherzone, drier weather will return to inland districts of NSW during the second half of this week as a high pressure system moves over southeastern Australia.
The system was also expected to bring a run of cold and frosty mornings to kick off winter.
Mudgee and Young are forecast to be the coldest place in the region over the next few days, hitting lows of minus 3 on Friday and Saturday.
Orange and Lithgow will hit lows of minus 2 on Friday and Saturday, while most towns will hit minus temperatures at least once by the end of the week.
Orange also has the lowest daytime maximums with a low of nine again on Thursday, before rising into double figures and a top of 14 degrees on Tuesday.
Most places will reach high-teens throughout the week, including Dubbo, which will top out at 19 degrees from Sunday through to Tuesday.
