Community members gathered together at Dawsons Park to share a cup of tea and some delicious treats for the Garden Clubs Biggest Morning Tea and help raise funds for Cancer Council NSW.

Now in its 25th year, Australias Biggest Morning Tea is one of Cancer Councils leading fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.

This is the fifth year the Garden Club have hosted a biggest morning tea, with members bringing along a number of cakes and slices for Mondays event.

Guests were treated to former cancer survivor and advocate for Cancer Council Susie Hill who discussed the importance of hosting a biggest morning tea and the successful progress of the Cancer Council.

“Money raised from todays Biggest Morning Tea goes to the Cancer Council, and its going to be money well spent I can assure you that,” Ms Hill said.

Cancer Council is Australias leading cancer charity working across every aspect of every cancer.

“We are over 95 per cent community funded and we rely on the generous donations and support of the community to continue our work in world class research, advocacy, prevention programs and support services,” she said.

Since Australias Biggest Morning Tea began in 1994, Cancer Councils generous community supporters have raised more than $192 million by hosting morning teas.

Ms Hall said that all funds raised through Australias Biggest Morning Tea help support Cancer Councils life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs for people affected by cancer.

In Australia one Australian is diagnosed with cancer approximately every five minutes, the length of an average tea break.

While May, 24 is the official date for Australias Biggest Morning Tea, registrations are still open to host for the remainder of the month and throughout June.

Those who want to host can register at biggestmorningtea.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85 to receive a free morning tea host kit.

Those unable to host a morning tea can still get involved by donating directly to Cancer Council via biggestmorningtea.com.au.
