RIYADH: On the first day of its operations, Al-Balsam International Organization on Sunday succeeded in saving the lives of 8 Yemeni people in the port city of Mukalla, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The organizations medical team performed an open-heart surgery and seven therapeutic cardiac catheterizations on Yemeni citizens.
The target of the campaign, which runs from May 26 to June 2, is to perform 10 open-heart surgeries and around 90 therapeutic cardiac catheterizations.
The governor of Hadramout Province, Maj. Gen. Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, thanked Saudi Arabia and Al-Balsams team, who were prevented from arriving in time by cyclone Mekunu, for providing medical services to heart patients in Yemen on a daily basis during their stay.
On the sidelines of his meeting with Al-Balsams medical team on Sunday at the Charitable Foundation of Cardiology in the city of Mukalla, Al-Bahsani said: “This is the medical teams second visit, and what those consultant cardiologists from Saudi Arabia are doing is great, distinctive, and very humane.”
He praised the enthusiasm and determination of the medical team, who are keen to help heart patients in Hadramout and in Yemen after their circumstances prevented them from traveling abroad to receive medical attention.
The executive director of Al-Balsam International Organization, Emad Bukhari, said Al-Balsams medical campaigns in Yemen started in 2003 and have always been welcomed in the Yemeni provinces in which they have worked.
