Business owners, community group members, residents and ratepayers are being asked to brainstorm ideas for turning waste into a resource, as part of an upcoming waste feasibility study commissioned by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
The study will be conducted over the next six months and will inform the Shires Waste Master Plan, which will stipulate the waste recovery and disposal model for the local government area.
Shire Waste Services Manager Ruth Levett said key industry stakeholders and waste experts will also be consulted as part of the study.
“We are aiming for this to be a full and thorough study that puts all options on the table and considers what can best be applied in a local context,” she said.
“Augusta-Margaret River is an environmentally passionate community and I know there must be a lot of aspirational and practical ideas out there.
“Please take the time to contribute these ideas to the Shire.
“We want to hear everything you have to say so that we can have a proactive and innovative waste-to-recovery model into the future.”
Participation will be invited at various stages throughout the project, with engagement methods including on-line surveys, key stakeholder interviews and community workshops.
Work on the study has already commenced and will be completed by September 2018.
At the end of the process, the Shire will consider two proposed models which will then be presented to the community for consideration.
