Saudi Arabia marks international biodiversity day

RIYADH: The Saudi Wildlife Authority joined the world as it celebrated the annual International Day for Biological Diversity, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The authority marked the day under the slogan “Celebrating 25 years of efforts to protect biodiversity.”

Vice President of the Saudi Wildlife Authority, Hani bin Mohammed Ali Tatwani, said marking the day is in line with the Kingdoms Vision 2030 which promotes environmental sustainability to protect nature.

The authority was established in 1986 and is responsible for the conservation and development of wildlife in the kingdom.

Several events were held at the Bujairi Quarter and Al-Hayat Mall to commemorate the date.

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
