The salmon season is winding down for another year, although there are still plenty of fish around to be found.

From all accounts it was another great season between the capes with large numbers of fish migrating past.

The Richter Salmon lure competition is still running until the end of this month, so if youre in need of any lures for a last crack at the salmon, come in and spend $20 or more on Richter lures for a chance to win the grand prize of a lure pack worth $200.

The changing of the seasons has also seen the Snapper moving in closer to shore, with some great land based captures being reported.

The boaties have been getting into some shallow water snapper action as well.

There have even been some land based Dhufish being caught at some deeper water locations.

Offshore has seen the usual captures being taken of demersal species when the weather has been favourable enough for boats to head out to sea.

There have also been awesome numbers of Southern Bluefin Tuna around.

Trolling around with small skirted lures has been a reliable technique.

Visible bust ups of tuna schools have been rare, so its a matter of simply driving around until you run into a patch of fish.

From the 30m mark out is a good place to start.

Big Skippy have been making their presence known along the beaches and reef holes, falling to bait and lures.

These fish are great sport on the lighter gear and put up a terrific fight for their relative size.

There have also been plenty of big bull sized Herring right along the coast as well.

Many locals are preparing to make the annual pilgrimage north to Ningaloo and other places.

Come in and see us in store for any camping and fishing supplies that you might require. We are stocked with plenty of tackle for northern species and we are also currently clearing a range of mackie lures, soft plastics and jigs that would be great up north.

It is also worth checking over your boats safety gear before you head off. Its always best to err on the side of caution when travelling to remote northern locations. Being sure that lifejackets, flares, radios and EPIRBs are in good order is essential.

Until next month, happy (and safe) fishing and diving in the South West!
