Alex Walton On Adding Endeavor Content Muscle To Sales Company Bloom — Deadline Disruptors

Bloom became more than the average foreign sales company last fall when Endeavor Content acquired a majority stake from co-owners Alex Walton and Ken Kao. While agencies have held cozy relationships with different sales agents in the past, this was the first to be openly and directly connected to a holding company that also owns a major agency. It didnt take long to see the benefits for Bloom: The company teamed with Endeavor Content to make Sundances biggest eight-figure deal, as NEON, 30WEST & AGBO teamed on world rights for Sam Levinsons anarchic Assassination Nation. Bloom spent several years raising financing to put that film together, and when 30WEST placed the domestic distribution with NEON, it retained Bloom to broker the overseas deals.

Bloom was founded four years ago when Walton moved from Exclusive Media to join Kao as the producer/financier stepped up his output of tastemaker films and needed Walton to cushion the risk by selling overseas rights. The ambitions quickly grew larger. Bloom works with all the agencies, Walton says. That includes a collaboration with CAA on Jean-Marc Vallées Crazyrose production company launch. Bloom will co-finance the directing and producing projects hatched by the director of Dallas Buyers Club, Wild and Big Little Lies. The first picture Bloom secured to sell at Cannes 2018 was also a CAA package: the Julius Onah-directed thriller Luce, starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Octavia Spencer.

Whats the benefit of the Endeavor Content relationship? “Whether in distribution or financing, we are trying to maximize content creation opportunities for artists, and that affiliation gives us great resources at a time when the business continues to shift,” Walton says. “The collaboration with Endeavor Content allows access to materials and financing resources, and gives those artists greater access to distribution.”
