Supergirl and Jigsaw star Laura Vandervoort has joined the reboot of David Cronenbergs classic horror film Rabid.

Vandervoort will play Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation comes at a price.

The film is being overseen by Shout! Studios, which acquired U.S rights to the reboot, and is being directed by Dead Hooker in a Trunk filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska.

It is being produced by Back 40 Pictures in conjunction with Telefilm Canada and Ontario Media Development Corp, with Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde and John Vidette are serving as producers. It is being financed by London-based Media Finance Capital, with founders David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman serving as executive producers. Sales agent Film Mode Entertainment, run by Clay Epstein, has taken international and has already sold it to 101 Films in the UK.

“We are thrilled to be working with Laura Vandervoort on Rabid, who is the perfect fit for the role of Rose. She is an incredibly versatile actress who is quick to take on characters in all genres, and effectively tackles every role she plays,” said Walker.

Vandervoort is co-managed by Norbert Abrams of Noble Caplan Abrams and by Adam Levine of Industry Films. Abrams Artists Sharon Paz is her agent.
