Avengers: Infinity War Rockets To Chinas 3rd Biggest Opening Day; Swings Past Jungle Book As Indias Top Hollywood Pic
Globally through Thursday, Avengers: Infinity War reached $1.275.2M, passing Beauty And The Beast along the way to become the No. 12 movie ever at the worldwide box office. Thats before it collected any stones in China where the Disney/Marvel marvel had its first full day today. Unofficial estimates out of the Middle Kingdom put the start around $70M (not included in the global figure above). That gives AIW the 3rd biggest opening day of all time behind Monster Hunt 2 and The Fate Of The Furious — and blasts it even further up the global chart to No. 8 and counting.
Not including the China estimates, the international box office cume on Anthony and Joe Russos juggernaut is $789.3M through Thursday. Of particular note, the movie yesterday passed The Jungle Book in India to become the highest-grossing western film of all time in the market. The cume there, where its business has been just stunning, is $39.2M. Through yesterday, India was the No. 5 hub for Capncrew.
The Top 5 will see a seismic new entry this weekend as China takes hold with an opening frame that likely exceeds $200M. Age Of Ultron is the highest-grossing Marvel title ever in China with a $236M final. Thanos will end up leaving it in his dust.
Elsewhere overseas, Infinity War was strong and steady in the midweeks, holding to about 10%/11% of the previous weekend. On Thursday, it added another $17.4M. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, it became the highest grossing MCU release ever in the UK/Ireland and entered the Top 20 films ever at the international box office. The Top 5 markets before we start factoring in China are Korea ($77.5M), the UK ($74.9M), Mexico ($51.5M), Brazil ($49.8M) and India ($39.2M).
Infinity War came out of last weekend as the No. 5 superhero movie of all time globally and zoomed past Iron Man 3 on Tuesday. Its on track to top the other three ahead of it (each of which are MCU titles) and become the No. 1 film in the genre ever. The Avengers is the current leader at $1,518.8M.
