The Margaret River Girls Year 9-12 hockey team is going from strength to strength this season, winning their Friday night match against a gutsy Cavaliers Orange Team.

Cavs Orange put early pressure on the Margaret River goal area which was a wake up call for the Margies girls to shift up into another gear.

Despite playing with just the starting 11 and no subs, find that higher gear they did.

After successfully defending the early attack, they regrouped, supported each other and turned the ball around to apply pressure of their own, resulting in an early goal scored by Emilia Forrest.

This buoyed confidence within the group and led to another goal not long after, this time scored by Kiri Mann.

By the half time siren, the Margaret River girls were out in front by 6-0 which hasnt happened in the last 4 seasons for this team – possibly longer!

the ongoing mantra from Coach Erin Hutton to play a game of good basic skills and passing in order to create passages of play and move the ball towards the attacking D has clearly contributed to changing the teams fortunes this season – and of course the work the girls have done to put the Coachs words into practice.

The forwards are proving formidable and working well as a cohesive group and the defence this year, so far, has been impenetrable – not a single opposition goal has been conceded to date, resulting in Margaret River currently sitting on top of the ladder having won all their games so far this season.

The camaraderie between team mates on the turf is a joy to watch and they delight the spectators at every game.

They support one another, they encourage each other if something doesnt quite go to plan and they work as a group to turn things around.

We see them celebrating the talent of a team mate without questioning their own worth on the turf – and that is quite a profound thing to witness in junior sport.

Final score 9-0 to Margaret River.

Ashlee Jarvis with 3 goals, Emilia Forrest scored 2, and one goal each to Kiri Mann, Tess Mann, Annika Keall and Helena Williams. With thanks to team sponsors Priceline Margaret River.
