It was announced that Phillip Gibson was awarded a special achievement award from the Royal Agricultural Society for his commitment to the Show community.

“The Royal Agricultural Society is the governing body of our show, the Nyngan Show is a life on its own, but we are run under the auspices of the Royal Agricultural Society,” President of the Show Society Will Marr said.

The award was started back in 1838, and while it disappeared for a number of years, the achievement has been reinstated.

“The Royal Agricultural Society has reinstated an award for a person who has dedicated themselves to the Show movement.”

The vision of the Royal Agricultural Society is to educate the community the value of sustainable agriculture and to improve the animal breeds at competitions.

Mr Marr read comments made by the President of the Royal Agriculture Society Robert Ryan. “This award is an acknowledgement of the substantial and selfless service to your local community and committed support for agricultural Shows.”

Mr Marr went on to attribut Mr Gibson for his farming history and his lifelong commitment to the Show.

“Phillip has gone about his work quietly and doesnt seek the limelight. A lot of people comment and commend this showground on the wonderful facilities and it is people like Phillip beavering away over the years,” Mr Marr said.

Mr Gibson thanked everyone he had worked with and commended the number of people who turned up to the event.

“No one booed I think … Im glad to see the Nyngan show thriving,” Mr Gibson said.

Mr Gibson went on to recount his most successful contribution to the Show, the trailer stage used for the opening ceremony they were standing on.

“The only other thing I can clam is the best thing I ever did was make this trailer,” he said.

“We used to have boxes and borrow them from the High school and after the opening we would have to have three utes to take all the boxes back to the High school so we came up with this idea.”

“Thanks folks and I'll see you back here next year,” Mr Gibson concluded.
