Hunt reveals past offers from ‘Big Three’

Cape Town – Wits coach Gavin Hunt claims he could have joined one of the traditional Absa Premiership giants, but says the timing was wrong.

Hunt has won three league titles with SuperSport United, and also won the championship with the Clever Boys last season.

He feels he could have won even more silverware had he accepted offers from one of the 'Big Three' teams – Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Yes, I have had opportunities where I could have gone. I think in football sometimes it's about timing," he told KickOff website.

"I know if I had gone there I would have won much more than I have won already, I know that. But that's football and I say it's about timing.

"I won't even mention the name. I had two good opportunities to go, but I did not go. I just did not feel the time was right, and believe you me it was much more money.

"But if it was about money, then I would have gone. It is what it is. I have always felt it's about timing for me," he added.

The Students have failed to match last season's exploits in the league, although they did win the Telkom Knockout this season.

Currently 10th on the table, they need to beat relegated Platinum Stars to possibly secure a top eight spot, depending on the results of Chippa United, Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows, all of whom are within one point of the Students.
