Tiger pack dominates

Tiger pack dominates

The mighty Nyngan Tigers had a day out at Cale Oval coming away with victories in three of the four matches against the Narromine Jets.

A massive crowd of Tigers supporters made the trip to Narromine to cheer the boys on. Big effort by all the supporters who made the trip, it certainly helps the tigers get over the line.

The ladies got the day underway and when they raced out to a 18-6 lead midway through the first half, we looked like we were heading for a victory, but the Jets fought back and proved too strong in the finish running out winners 32-22.

Kayla continued her great early season form and was our best, just in front of Alana and Petria who made ground each time she handed the ball. Lucy Buchanan was another to shine as was Mrs Messa who got through plenty of work. Young Fitzy and Maddie also went well. Good effort girls.

The under-18s was a hard fought contest with the result in the balance right until the final whistle. The Tigers scored on the bell to seal the victory 26-16.

Our boys defended well against the big Jets boys and showed plenty of courage to charge on for the win.

Skipper Jak Jeffery lead by example, his defence was a feature and also created plenty of chances with the ball. Coop Ryan and Dewey McClelland were also strong, as was Tom Fuller and Fletch Jackson. In the backs Col Piper was busy, he scored a great try and steered the boys around the paddock well. Ben Skinner and Kurt Terry were also good, as well as Bill Quarmby.

The Reggies clash was similar with the result in the balance right to the final whistle.

The Jets raced out to an early lead but when the wight of possession evened out, Tooleys men fought their way back to go to half time break trailing by four.

We cut down on our mistakes in the second session and with old Coxy leading the way the Tigers took control. He scored two tries and did a mountain of defence in the middle, as did Gus Currans who was also solid. In the backs Rob Lane was dangerous and added a bit of spark to the Tigers when we needed it. Liam Durrington and Jordan Keighran were also good.

The First Grade clash saw the Tigers with a near perfect start which saw us hold a 16-nil lead. The boys dropped their guard a bit and allowed the Jets to cross for a couple of soft tries to put them back in it. This seemed to be the wake up call we needed, and with captain-coach Jacob Neill leading the way the boys got back on the job.

Our pack was dominant with all the boys playing vital roles. Gerald Mackey is going better than ever, he was powerful with every carry and was as good as anyone on the paddock in his time on the field. Little hooker James Fisk was another standout his work rate is unbelievable and his energy rubs off on the rest of the boys.

We were pretty much in full control for the second half and came away with a convincing 44-20 victory.

Jacob would be pleased with the sides progress. We were a bit rough in patches but we are definitely heading in the right direction. Matt Fieldson and Addie Spicer were strong off the bench as was Jak Jeffery making his First Grade debut. Jak took to first grade like a duck to water and its great to see a local junior come through into First Grade. Well done mate Im sure it wont be the last time we see you in the Firsts.

This weekend we are on the road again when we travel to Dubbo to take on Westside.
