The Margaret River womens hockey team won their match against a skillful Robins line up on Saturday on the Busselton Turf.

Robins, known for their accurate passing and strong stick skills, were no match for the disciplined Margaret River side.

Captain Francine Davies outlined a solid game plan prior to start of play which translated well on the turf.

Stand-in coach Colin Fox applauded the teams consistency.

“The team adhered well to coach Erin Huttons continued mantra of structure, basics and short passes, which showed some good passage of play and consistent pressure by the attacking forwards,” Fox said.

With a mix of senior and junior Margaret River players making up the team, the combination of young speed and older experience really proved to be a winning combination.

There was good retention of control of the ball and use of back passing to wait for open opportunities to move the ball forward.

On the few occasions where Robins were able to move the ball towards the Margaret River goal, the defence held firm, keeping the opposition scoreless at the final siren.

Margaret River goals were scored spectacularly by Lisa Tennant and Kiri Mann assisted in the set up of Debbie Storeys smashing goal in the second half.
