Calligraphy forum begins in Madinah on Tuesday

MADINAH: Under the patronage of Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman, the Madinah Forum for Arabic Calligraphy will begin on Tuesday at Hotel Pullman Zamzam.
The 14-day forum brings together an elite group of 50 calligraphers and artists from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey.
During the first week of the forum, specialized workshops, activities, and enriching lectures will be held for both genders with an emphasis on the vitality of Arabic calligraphy and the art prospects of Arabic letters.
In addition, professional calligraphers will share their personal experiences and participatory writing sessions will be held to introduce participants to the details of letter dissection, the techniques that help in composing a work of art, and the constants and variables in the art of calligraphy. Contemporary art issues will also be highlighted at the forum.
Eight female calligraphers from Saudi Arabia will also take part in the forum.
A calligraphy exhibition will also be held on the sidelines of the forum.
The event aims to increase interest in Arabic calligraphy among the youth and to honor calligraphers who have made outstanding contributions in this field.
