The new Margaret River Youth Precinct received a timely boost to funding last week with the announcement that the Lions Club of Margaret River would increase their donation towards the project to $45,000.

Shire of Augusta Margaret River Manager Human and Community Services, Nigel Anderson said the news meant final works to the outdoor entertainment stage could be completed, allowing for live performances at the precinct.

“The Lions Club have been a committed partner to this community project right from its conception and have shared the communitys vision to make the Precinct inclusive to all users,” Mr Anderson said.

“The main entertainment stage will now be finished with jarrah timber and will be universally accessible.

“It has three-phase power and will have an shade shelter to support outdoor performances.”

Mr Anderson said the additional works would mean the community could expect to access the new facilities towards the end of May.

“Due to us getting the go ahead for these extra features, an exact date will need to be redetermined for when people can start using the new skate park,” he said.

“The official opening festivities are scheduled for Sunday June 3, so pencil this date in as we have been working on an exciting line up!”

Margaret River Lions President Brian Prendergast said the Lions were fully in support of the Youth Precinct project.

“The money raised through our garage sales is channeled straight back into the community, with a percentage of sales put towards projects such as this,” Mr Prendergast said.

“Wed like to thank the public for their growing support of our fortnightly Saturday garage sales.

“Were very happy to be able to support projects such as this one, which generate positive influence on our community, and weve been supportive of the precinct every step of the way.”
