Cape Town – Cavin Johnson says he felt pity for Platinum Stars following their relegation from the Absa Premiership in the wake of their 2-1 defeat to AmaZulu on Wednesday.
Ovidy Karuru opened the scoring at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on 61 minutes ahead of Mhlengi Cele's 83rd minute strike.
Litsie Koapeng netted a consolation goal with four minutes of the match remaining.
Johnson had two spells in charge of Dikwena before joining Usuthu this season.
The three points against Stars lifted his current side to 35 points in the Premiership, in eighth place with two games left to play.
And although Usuthu walked away with the win, the AmaZulu mentor felt his side didn't play as well as he knows they can.
Johnson told SuperSport: "Thats the way football goes, I work for AmaZulu and they have to fight as Stars.
"We left a good legacy there, brought them back up few times and I feel sorry for the people by them now because there was a good product that we were building in that area.
"If they stay, then they are going to have to fight to come back to the PSL, unlucky for them tonight."
Despite their relegation, Johnson said he felt Dikwena were in fact the better side throughout parts of the match on Wednesday and could have walked away with the three points had they been more clinical in front of goals.
Johnson added: "To be honest, I stole the points today. All credit to Stars, they played a better game than us. We did not play the way we wanted to play. Yes, the two goals we scored were good goals.
"I thought they were well orchestrated like we wanted to score goals, but in one moment we did not get wide enough in both halves and we defended for a long time.
"Stars missed quite a few goals and like I said, I think we stole it away from them tonight, but unlucky to them."
