Not great news for Arctic Monkeys fans as they have revealed that they wont be releasing any songs off their album before its released.

Alex Turner and his band members are making their loyal followers hold on with baited breath to wait until all 11 tracks of their sixth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is out.

The new project will follow the bands 2013 album AM and is set to be released on 11 May.

So after making fans wait four whole years for new music, Arctic Monkeys frontman commented on the decision: Jamie [Cook, guitarist] was really keen on that idea, and I guess people at Domino [record label].

But it didnt come from me. I understand it, I think.

Speaking to Mojo magazine in the same interview guitarist Jamie revealed the record nearly became a solo album for Alex as the tracks were more piano-led originally so Alex was planning on keeping them for himself.

He told the publication: I think at first, because it was quite basic – piano, vocal and no guitar – Al was in two minds about, is this Arctic Monkeys or am I going somewhere else with this.

And maybe at first I was a bit like that as well.

Its definitely not a guitar-heavy record, not typically what wed do. It took a lot more thinking about.

While were yet to even hear a single from their sixth album, Pitchfork have confirmed the new record will open with Alex Turner singing about The Strokes.

The first track, titled Star Treatment, begins: I just wanted to be one of the Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make/Hitchhiking with a monogrammed suitcase, miles away from any half-useful imaginary highway.

In an interview with Mojo about the lyric, Turner said: Thats me writing about writing. Did the Strokes line feel too close to home? Yeah, absolutely. But you cant let that stop you.

Other details have also emerged from the first review of the album in the June 2018 issue of Uncut, which describes it as a brave reinvention of the band.

Writer John Robinson says it has some of the classicism of Turner side-project The Last Shadow Puppets, with some endlessly quotable lyrics.

He also highlights closer The Ultracheese as a grand ballad in the vein of AMs No. 1 Party Anthem, continuing the trend of mocking titles for slower, soaring numbers.

Itll be interesting to see how the album is received considering it follows arguably their biggest release to date, with fifth album AM seeing them achieve a newfound global status.

For now, well hope, pray, and beg therell be a single to tide us over soon.

Arctic Monkeys new album Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino releases on May 11.
