Slammin’ Sam vows to change his ways for Souths

His latest brush with the NRL match review committee lifts his career tally to 10 weeks on the sideline for a variety of charges, raising questions about his on-field aggression.

But a number of the Rabbitohs have urged Burgess not to let his multiple suspensions force him into altering his rugby league DNA, which has made him one of the most feared forwards in the competition.

"He ran for over 200 metres on the weekend and bust his gut in defence as well. We don't want him to change, he's just got to fix up a few little technical things," Inglis said.

Sam's brother Thomas labelled his older sibling a 'rebel', but found a silver lining from his latest ban.

"You feel like you're letting the team down, but that's all he's disappointed about. You want to be out there every week. He'll be alright. It's a long season, so he'll be back fresh like last time," Thomas said.

"It's a fast-paced game. It's contact, fatigue comes into play, that's why these things are in place when that happens. There's penalties, but he's copped this one and we just move on from it now."

Cameron Murray, who has missed the past two matches with a hamstring injury, is likely to start in Burgess' place in Thursday's match against Brisbane after training strongly on Tuesday.

"(Sam's) not happy at all about missing those two games but we've got Cam Murray who's coming back in, who's pretty much Sam Junior. He's a mini Sam," hooker Damien Cook said.

"He does a lot of the hard work and so we're going to do the job against Brisbane this weekend."
