Liam Gallagher will support The Rolling Stones during their upcoming UK Tour this summer, it has been revealed.

The Britpop icon has been announced as part of a huge line-up that also includes Florence + The Machine, Elbow and James Bay.

Theyll join the self-proclaimed Greatest Rock N Roll Band In The World during an eight date stadium tour across May and June — including shows at huge venues such as the London Stadium, Manchesters Old Trafford and Cardiffs Principality Stadium.

You can see Gallagher in action at the first London Stadium date of the No Filter tour on 22 May.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Gallagher said it was “a dream come to true to open for the Stones and called them the best Rock n Roll band EVER.

Could they have overtaken previous favourites The Beatles in the battle for Liams affections?

It's a dream come true to be asked to open for The Mighty @RollingStones – the best Rock n Roll band EVER.

The live deal almost fell through at the last minute when Gallagher realised he was to play at Manchester United football ground Old Trafford, arch rivals to Liams beloved Manchester City.

He obviously loved the thought of the Manchester gig and said yes straight away, an industry insider told The Sun.

Then when the details landed he couldnt believe hed agreed to go and play at OId Trafford.

But it shows how much The Stones wanted him that they shifted things around to make it happen.

Asked about the prospect of an on-stage collaboration, the source said, who knows what will happen on the night. The full details of the shows are under wraps.

Fans were dismayed last month when tickets to the bands first UK tour in five years went on sale at eye-watering prices. Premium seats reportedly cost punters more than £450 each.

The announcement came after Stones fans in the UK were left disappointed last year when a lack of suitable venues meant the European tour included no shows in their home country.
