Magnolia Nabs Jason Mitchell-Starring Sundance Drama Tyrel

Magnolia Pictures

Magnolia Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the cabin party film, Tyrel, starring Straight Outta Compton and Mudbound star Jason Mitchell, along with Michael Cera, Chris Abbott, Ann Dowd, and Caleb Landry Jones. Sebastián Silva wrote and directed the pic which premiered at this years Sundance Film Festival.

The film follows Tyler, who joins his friend on a trip to the Catskills for a weekend birthday party with several people he doesnt know. As soon as they get there, its clear that not only is he the only black guy but its also going to be a weekend of heavy drinking. While in “Whitesville,” the combination of all the testosterone and alcohol starts to get out of hand, and Tylers precarious situation starts to feel like a nightmare.

Silva, Max Born, and Jacob Wasserman produced the film, which Magnolia will distribute in theaters sometime this year.

The deal was negotiated by Dori Begley and John Von Thaden from Magnolia with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.
