Eagles uncertain of their place in the AFL pecking order

And next week they will head to the MCG, where they havent won since round 17 of 2016, when they beat Carlton by seven points.

The Eagles will tackle the Blues there again next Saturday.

Kennedy, a former Blue, could break the Eagles goalkicking record next week against his old side. Peter Sumich currently holds that with 514; Kennedys five against the Gold Coast on Saturday night takes him to 513.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said after their 80-point win over the Suns that he was unsure where his side sits in the pecking order. Hes likely to be none the wiser after round five. The Blues have lost all four games this season, by an average of 42.5 points, most recently to North Melbourne by 86.

They are hardly a litmus test.

“I'm not sure where we are at, in terms of where we sit in the pecking order,” Simpson said. “We havent achieved anything yet.

“There is yet to be a stabalising period of the season when you know the better teams from the poorer teams.

“They are events at the moment and at the moment we have had a few good events. This is the first game we were favourites going into the game.

“So, we're still establishing our own brand and what we stand for.”

The Eagles are likely to have to make at least one change to the side that beat the Suns.

Daniel Venables left the ground late in the third term with a lower leg injury and didnt return, while Jack Redden copped a big knock to his shin.

Brad Sheppard was clearly struggling with a thigh injury for the second consecutive week, but was able to finish the game.

Mark LeCras, who played his 200th game against the Suns and kicked two goals, may come under match review scrutiny for a bump on the Gold Coasts Ben Ainsworth.

Replays of the incident werent very clear, but the young Sun was forced from the ground with a suspected concussion and was unable to return.
