Tragic search for child after house fire near Lithgow

A tragic search for a childs body after all but one person made it out of a burning house near Lithgow on Saturday morning.

Tragedy struck when a fire broke out in a house at Capertee, 45 kilometres north of Lithgow, around 8am.

Two adults and two children escaped the burning home, which was completely destroyed in the blaze.

A third child is unaccounted for and emergency services believe they did not escape the building.

The four who did make it out of the house were treated by paramedics at the scene and have been taken to hospital.

A search of the ruins will get under way as soon as the scene has been deemed safe, with police and fire investigators remaining on site at the Castlereagh Highway home.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, police said.
