A two-year-old girl has died in a house fire in the NSW central tablelands on Saturday morning.
The heartbreaking search for a body began this morning, after a fire broke out in a home the Castlereagh Highway 45 kilometres north of Lithgow around 8am.
Two adults and two children escaped the burning home in Capertee, which was completely destroyed in the blaze.
A third child was unaccounted for and emergency services were facing the heartbreaking task of sifting through the rubble in an effort to locate the toddler.
The search got under way after the fire scene was deemed safe, and the little girls body was recovered in that search.
The four who did make it out of the house – a 44-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, and two children aged four and one – were treated by paramedics at the scene and have been taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, police said, and a crime scene has been established at the property.
It is now the subject of a forensic examination as police work to determine just how the fire started.
