Five riders from Margaret River Senior High School will compete in the 2018 Saddles Plus Interschool Equestrian State Championship during the first week of the April school holidays.

Year 8 student Samara Jackman, Year 9s Lily Martin and Jessica Ridley and Year 12 students Keeley Dittmar and Lauryn Hall will head to Perth to put their skills – and the skills of their horses – to the test against some of WAs best young riders.

MRSHSs Corien Ridley said the group were excited to be taking part in the event.

“This is the biggest equestrian event for WA riders in their primary and secondary years of school, three action-packed days of dressage, show jumping, show horse and combined training events,” she said.

Riders have had to attend qualification events in the disciplines they are competing in around the South West and metropolitan area in the preceding 12 month period as a horse and rider combination.

“For three of the riders this has been a challenge, as they have changed horses early this year and only had a very limited time frame in which to obtain the necessary qualifications.

All five riders are participating in the dressage category, four riders in the show horse event, and Keeley Dittmar will be the only competitor to tackle the show jumping and combined training this year.
