Could Tom Mitchell face a weekend with Bernie?

Goodwin said the club had spent time this week developing plans to stop Mitchell, who he acknowledged was a key driver of Hawthorn's strong early season form.

The coach laughed at the suggestion he might match the Demons' young on-baller Clayton Oliver against Mitchell although he did admit it would make for an interesting game.

"That would be nice. They are certainly in terrific form," Goodwin said.

He said the club had no plans to go out of their way to antangonise young Hawthorn defender James Sicily, who missed last week's game against Richmond due to suspension with Goodwin saying Melbourne wanted to be known for the way they played their football.

The Demons took the unusual step of training away from Gosch's Paddock on Thursday in order to practise some tactics away from prying eyes.

Goodwin would not reveal the location but said they would only train away from the open Gosch's Paddock a few times in the season.

He said the club was keen to improve their efficiency inside 50 to maximise their high number of inside 50s, with the club leading the competition for inside 50s in the first three rounds.

He said there was pressure for spots in the senior team with midfielder Angus Brayshaw a chance to be named in the squad after a solid performance with Casey on the weekend.
