Roberts riding Comm Games wave onto the wedding train

"I pretty much gave myself up until I left home going to team camp to get everything done, and then just park it at home and leave it for a few weeks," she said.

"I've pretty much done everything I can up until this point. Now we just ride the Commonwealth Games wave and when I go home we're on the wedding train.

"I think it's been a really good balance actually.

"I put everything I can into my training day to day, and then to step back and focus on some wedding stuff has been a nice little break in between, giving me something else to do and invest some time in."

But before she walks down the aisle, she'll walk out on to Carrara Stadium full of confidence from the personal-best 64.57m she threw in Brisbane two weeks ago.

It ranks her as the second biggest thrower in the Commonwealth over the last year, behind countrywoman Kathryn Mitchell.

Mitchell unleashed 68.57m in Melbourne a month ago and Roberts listed Canada's Elizabeth Gleadle and South Africa's Sunette Viljoen as two others who will be pushing her for a spot on the podium.

Roberts has loved the fact Mitchell has also struck form going into the Games, meaning she didn't need to go overseas to find "big throwers".

That's helped her own results and has given her the perfect boost going into the Gold Coast Games.

"Always take confidence out of throwing well in the lead-up to major championships," Roberts said.

"It shows that your training is coming together at the right time and I'm in the best shape I can be really.

"I'm doing something my body hasn't done before by throwing a PB and I can't ask for much more than that.

"We've got quite a strong group of girls all pushing for a podium so I certainly want to be in the mix there.

"I want to put myself in a position to really fight for that gold medal as well. You've got Kathryn and Sunette and Liz Gleadle all going to be up there so it's going to be a great competition."

While there's the obvious boost of competing in front of an Australian crowd, Roberts said being able to compete at Carrara for the national championships in February was another plus.

She's now looking forward to seeing what it looks like with the stands filled with people.

"I'm really, really excited to be competing at home this year. It's so different having access to family and friends for a lot longer," Roberts said.

"Having a hit-out at Carrara for our nationals and seeing what that stadium looks like under lights – I can't wait to see it filled with people as well. I'm really appreciative to be part of this team this year."
