2018 Commonwealth Games day five live: Tough act to follow after Sunday’s 27 Australian medals

Lawn Bowls: South Africa put up a valiant fight as they went back and forth with Australia, but in the end the home side prevailed at Broadbeach.

The visitors were always chasing but were right in it until the 11th end, where the green and gold extended their lead to four shots. South Africa struggled to get near, despite a four shot end in the 15th.

Alas, it was too late. Australia 18 South Africa 16

Weightlifting: One of the more controversial issues to hit this Games is the inclusion of transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard in the 90kg-plus category.

One Commonwealth Games boss says the discourse surrounding the athlete 'clearly needs to be settled.'

Artistic Gymnastics: There will be five sets of medals decided this afternoon, beginning with the Men's Vault Final just after 2.30pm.

Christopher Remkes of Australia is the favourite there, but is closely followed by Courtney Tulloch and Dominick Cunningham of England.

Men's Parallel Bars will follow where English star Nile Wilson is expected to triumph – as the Women's Balance Beam goes ahead concurrently. Expect a strong performance from Canada's Elsabeth Black.

Women's Floor comes next – where Black is intending on making a run for another medal in the face of challenges from countrywoman Shallon Olsen, England's Taeja James and Australia's Alexandra Eade.

Men's Horizontal Bar closes the session where Wilson is again tipped to grab gold for England.

Lawn Bowls: The Australian and South African Women's Fours teams are making a real game of it – much back and forth out on the greens at Broadbeach.

If bowls are your game, I'd check it out.

Shooting: India's Jitu Rai claimed a Games record this afternoon in the 10m Air Pistol – and with it a gold medal.

His score of 235.1 came at the expense on Australian Kerry Bell (233.5), who finished with a silver medal as a result.

Om Mitharval of India took bronze, with the three that made the podium eliminating another Australian in Daniel Repacholi prior to the medal stage.

This was a morning that defied expectation for Australia in track and field. It is not always this way in athletics, where excuse makers can be easy to find, writes Michael Gleeson.

Boxing: Caitlin Parker won her 75kg Quarterfinal in relatively smooth circumstances – a unanimous decision with every judge awarding her all three rounds.

Her opponent, England's Natasha Gale, recieved a warning in the second round on her way out of the competition.

Decathlon: The leaderboard is starting to take shape after the 100m, Long Jump and Shot Put legs of the event were completed this morning.

Cedric Dubler is the best of the home nation so far, sitting in fourth place with 2515 points, 251 behind theleader, Canada's Damian Warner.

Kyle Cranston came second in the first of two 100m heats, but his 11.16 would have placed him second last in the second group to make the dash. He sits in ninth place of a total of 12 athletes.

Fellow Australian Dubler posted a 10.69, finishing third in Heat 2, behind two Canadians: Pierce Lepage (10.62) and Damian Warner (10.29).

Dubler continued to impress with a season's best in the Long Jump, leading the pack with a 7.59m jump.

The Australians struggled in the Shot Put, Cranston (13.59m) down to 7th and and Dubler (12.34) finishing with the shortest throw of the group.

The Decathlon continues this evening in the High Jump from 7pm.

Athletics: Kurt Fearnley made sure of his place in the T54 1500m final, finishing behind only a Games record from England's Richard Chiassaro (3:05.76).

Lawn Bowls: The Australian Women's Fours are currently out on the lawns in a battle for gold with South Africa.

It's too early to tell who's in charge of the momentum after just four ends (Australia 5, South Africa 3), but it is the fallback option for television audiences this morning if you're keen to tune in.

Badminton: Singapore will attempt to fight back from 1-0 down in the Mixed Team Event against England – with a bronze medal on the line.

Later this evening (17:30), India take on Malaysia for overall honours.
