The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has issued an update on the progress of works at the Margaret River Youth Precinct, along with a stern warning to stay out of the construction site.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Shire Human and Community Services Manager Nigel Anderson said the Shire expected to have the site ready to hand to the community by mid-May.

"We have really appreciated the publics patience during the construction period which has enabled workers to concentrate on completing the project as quickly as possible,” Mr Anderson said.

Reports of children accessing portions of the incomplete skate park last week drew concern from the community, with large pieces of metal and building equipment some of the many hazards behind the fence.

"Unfortunately there have been some people illegally entering and damaging the construction site which has taken workers away from their important work in order to fix the damage,” said Mr Anderson.

"I remind people that the Margaret River Youth Precinct is a construction site and those people found onsite without authorisation are in fact trespassing, so please respect the warning signs that are there for your own safety," he said.

"Thanks to everyone who has respected the site, you will soon be able to enjoy arguably one of WA's premier parks!"

The Shire will install security surveillance cameras at the site, which they said may be used to assist in trespass investigations.
