MOTORISTS hitting the roads over the Easter Long Weekend are being urged to shop around before they travel to take advantage of the cheapest fuel along their route.
While fuel prices are expected to remain stable over the weekend, they are also predicted to rise early next week with motorists encouraged to fill up sooner than later.
The NSW government fuel check website shows Lithgow was the cheapest place to fill up with E10 in the central west on Thursday, while Mudgee, Parkes and Forbes were the most expensive.
“Fuel prices in the western region have been fairly stable over the past few weeks and the good news is we dont expect prices to rise over the long weekend,” NRMA Spokesperson Saoirse Connolly said.
“Petrol prices rise and fall depending on the price of crude oil and the movement in the Australian dollar compared to the US dollar. In regional areas there is no price cycle like in metropolitan areas so prices tend to move in accordance with global factors.
“Crude oil prices are currently rising due to a number of factors including ongoing cuts in supply by OPEC and non-OPEC producers, world political issues and price speculation due to impending US tariffs.”
On Thursday, ahead of the long weekend, E10 blended fuel could be purchased for 117.9 at the Enhance and Midtown Lithgow service stations.
In Cowra diesel fuel was cheaper than the E10 blend, with the Metro Petroleum selling diesel for 125.9 cents.
In Orange the cheapest E10 blend could be found for 129.9 at the United station while the cheapest diesel was 131 at Metro Orange.
Bathurst prices were slightly more expensive than Orange, with E10 selling for 130.7 at Metro and the cheapest diesel costing 134.7 at United.
At the opposite end in Parkes and Forbes where prices were the most expensive in the central west, the best offerings were at the Caltex in Parkes for 136.9 and the Independent and Caltex in Forbes where E10 could be purchased for 135.9.

“As prices are expected to rise after Easter (the gap between highest and lowest price) may well just widen – so its important to remain vigilant, do your research and fill up sooner rather than later,”
